4 Places You Must Visit in Osaka, Japan

On 16th September, right after July term, I flew to Osaka, Japan. Due to a serious damage from typhoon ‘Jebi’, both Kansai airport and the heart of Osaka were not much crowded as I expected. However, the port city that has a long history as a regional center of commerce was full of vibrant and lively colors. This post is about a guide about 4 places you must visit in Osaka.

1. Dotonbori

Dotonbori is Osaka's most famous tourist destination. It is renowned for its gaudy neon lights, extravagant signage and various restaurants and stores. Takoyaki, Okonomiyaki, Kyukatsu and Ramen; it is full of delicious cuisine! Aside from restaurants, there is one store you must visit; it is “Don Quijote” where sells discount items including cosmetics, medicines, food, costumes and home appliances. You might get yourself lost there because it is huge and full of those items that make you open your wallet. At the end, you have one last thing to do-which is to take a photo in front of “Glico Sign”. It is a popular photo zone of Dotonbori. Night time is better timing when you can capture the colorful neon sign.

Here is a great place to shop clothing, footwear and accessories! Shinsaibashi shopping arcade runs north from Dotonbori to Nagahori Dori Street. There are roughly 200 stores that features a wide range of high-end tax-free shops with airport delivery including major department stores, brand retailers, independent fashion boutiques and cafes. The main entrance is near Shinsaibashi station. If you don’t mind the crowd, go discover the latest fashion!

Japan has been well-known for its long history in animation, and it is one thing that attract many tourists. There is a town where the entire stores selling figures, electronics and manga video games, called “Den Den Town”. Especially, the figures shops are amazing. They have variety of figures including those available only in Japan. They sell both new and second-hand figures at much cheaper price than other places in Osaka. Also, you can see some big signs featuring animation characters on the street. Though you don’t like animation, it will be fun enough to walk around the town.
