On 24th August, the last day of Singapore Night Festival, I enjoyed a night out with my classmates and my lecturer. Believe or not, it was the first time for me to go to the night festival while living in Singapore for two years. In the late afternoon around 6pm, our first destination was SMU(Singapore Management University). Inside the campus, there was a wide space full of grass and pop-ups selling food. The greenery and lively place looked exciting enough to raise the appetite. Among many delicious-looking foods, I had a chicken taco and a beef nacho.
After a light meal, we moved to the National Museum which was on the opposite side of SMU. The white museum in European style and a soft, ambient lighting leaking from the museum was a romantic combination. There were pop-ups inside the museum selling various kinds of souvenirs and handicrafts. Looking around the museum, the sun set and the evening came.
We went out and started to walk towards the Singapore Art Museum to watch ‘Odyssey’, a light projection show which started at 8pm. The show was named ‘Night Lights’ and was operated by “Oppo”, a leading global smartphone brand in order to promote an innovative technology of their new smartphone, the Find X, and bring it to life. There were two huge installations covered in a green cloth with Oppo’s logo on. The installations projected art works on the facades of the museum and turned its vicinity into ephemeral works of wonder. The show was the most impressive part for me due to Oppo’s brilliant and creative promotion strategy. It created a unique, unforgettable experience to people and asserted their presence at the same time.
Our last destination was the National Design Centre, Atrium. Inside the building, we could see an exhibition of wearable arts. Mannequins were displayed on the stage wearing the art works. According to WOW(World of WearableArt), their inspiration is a combination of art and the human form; where the lines of fashion and art blur and merge as one. They try to give designers the opportunity to be innovative, bold and free from the constraints of commercialism. They hold a competition every year and display the best pieces on the stage. Taking a look at the exhibition, I loved their idea and the art works. I think being creative is the most difficult thing for me but the most important thing which will make me special and outstanding in this century.
