My Voluntary Experience at DFW Fashion Show

Updated: Sep 12, 2018

DFW(Digital Fashion Week) has brought ‘Rising Fashion 2.0’, an exclusive project with 14 stunning Indonesian designers. After a period of preparation for a pop-up store and a fashion show at Paragon shopping mall from on 21st July, DFW had a grand opening of the pop-up store on 1st August at level 3 of Paragon, Orchard. The project was brought by Minister of Foreign affairs together with partners from Indonesian embassy, BEKRAF.

On 8th August, I participated in a voluntary work to prepare a fashion show. For the first one hour, I was in charge of dressing up models in a fitting room of the pop-up store. With an instruction from Beeyunkca who is a stylist of DFW, I could easily dress the models up. Then, I was tasked with photography during the fashion show. There were professional photographers at level 1, and Beeyunkca asked me to take photos and videos at level 2 with many different angles to use them especially for Instagram posts. The whole process of the fashion show lasted for almost an hour. After the fashion show, I spent one last hour to take photos of visitors looking around the venue during a performance.

Completing a voluntary work, I appreciate this opportunity first of all. As I enjoy photography, it was a joyful task for me to take photos and videos of the fashion show. It is always a pleasure for me to know about new or rising designers and their collections as a fashion student. Also, this voluntary work helped me understand more about how a collaborative work could be done successfully together with my previous experience on a school fashion show planned by me and my classmates during an advanced diploma. Overall, it was very impressive and valuable experience and I am looking forward to more opportunities.
