The Sustainable Styling Challenge @TheFashionPulpit

Today, I’ve brought an unique experience of my styling challenge with second-hand clothing as a school field trip at The Fashion Pulpit which is a shop located at Liang Court Mall, Singapore. Their motive is “Bringing together the 2 most essential S in fashion- STYLE and SUSTAINABILITY!” The shop has collected a bunch of second-hand clothes, assorted and displayed them by section. This amazing challenge is to promote the need and purpose of sustainable fashion. Also, I and my classmates tried to show how a sustainable fashion can look nice and cool through this challenge.

The challenge was done within 2 hours. We were separated into 4 teams, and selected one model to style. Each team member brought outfits, and a model dressed up one by one. We took two kinds of photos; one is flatlay and the other is photoshoot. My team tried three concepts by colors tones. The first outfit is in monotone consisting of grey and black. A black dress with a jacket and a pair of mid-long boots. The second one is in stark and bright colors. A black bandeau, a red jacket on the top, light purple pants and a pair of purple sneakers. Each color is very outstanding, but all of the items were in harmony. The last outfit was “Qipao”, a Chinese dress. A red Qipao is fascinating enough. A set of heels with floral embroideries and a green rectangular satin clutch do have a Chinese look.

At the end of the challenge, we sent the photos the the shop for their future Instagram post. It was a brand new challenge for me as a stylist. I found styling is very fun and I actually liked it! Furthermore, establishing my own view on sustainable fashion and spreading the idea through different media is one important task for me as a future fashion marketer to keep my pace up with a fast evolving sustainable fashion industry.
